A Japanese woman gave birth to her own grandchild at the age of 61, according to the Associated Press.
It wasn't like she had any good option in the matter: Her daughter wasn't able to conceive herself and the Japanese health care system banned the procedure to allow other women to act as surrogates. But they found a doctor willing to performed the procedure for them anyway.
The child was born last year, but details are only beginning to be revealed now. The case will be presented by the doctor at the Japan Society of Fertilization and Implantation meeting on August 28.
According to the report, the grandmother and her grandchild are both doing fine.
