Britney Spears is heading back to the MTV Video Music Awards, but this time, she won't be performing.

According to Reuters, Spears will open the award show, but in what capacity remains unknown.

"MTV has long played an important role in my career. How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMAs? I'm excited to open the entire show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated," Spears said in a statement.

She was widely ridiculed for her poor performance at the same award show last year, where it was evident she was unprepared. She was having a break down after all.
