*Updated with why Bale lashed out at mother* Christian Bale, the star of the record-breaking movie "The Dark Knight," was arrested and questioned for four hours before being released at the Belgravia police station in the UK on June 22.

His mother and sister filed charges against Bale, saying he assaulted them at his Dorchester Hotel suite Sunday night, an allegation Bale denies. The nature of the assault is unclear at this point.

Bale voluntarily turned himself at the police station, and after questioning, was released on bail with the stipulation to return sometime in September.

He was in London to attend the premiere of "The Dark Knight" movie.

Update 7/23/2008:
Bale apparently "confronted" his mother when she said some unpleasant things about his wife, Sibi Blazic, the Daily Mail has learned. He still denies the assault charges filed against him.
