To improve players marketability, the LPGA has instituted a rule to require all players to speak passable English starting 2009. Players who can't pass an oral test will be suspended. The organization reconsiders after facing criticism over this rule.
"After hearing the concerns, we believe there are other ways to achieve our shared objective of supporting and enhancing the business opportunities for every [LPGA] Tour player. In that spirit, we will continue communicating with our diverse Tour players to develop a better alternative," LPGA commissioner Carolyn F. Bivens said in a statement.
