Now with "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" behind him, Steven Spielberg is ready to move on to the other projects he has lined up.
First up is "Tintin," which will begin production in early fall of this year. "Tintin" is based on a Belgian comic strip created by Herge. The central character is a reporter named Tintin who gets in all sorts of adventures with his faithful dog, Snowy. Andy Serkis has signed on to play the role of Captain Haddock.
The movie will be animated, not live-action, and the special effects for the movie will be done by Peter Jackson's WETA Digital.
"We want Tintin's adventures to have the reality of a live-action film, and yet Peter and I felt that shooting them in a traditional live-action format would simply not honor the distinctive look of the characters and world that Herge created," Spielberg told Variety back in 2007.
"[W]e're making them look photorealistic; the fibers of their clothing, the pores of their skin and each individual hair. They look exactly like real people -- but real Herge people!," Jackson said.
Spielberg has "The Trail of the Chicago Seven" after "Tintin," but that looks unlikely since he couldn't get a rewrite of the script due to the writers strike.
Instead, he'll be shooting a movie about Abraham Lincoln after "Tintin." Liam Neeson is attached to play the 16th President.
According to IMDB, he is attached to direct a sci-fi movie called "Interstellar" as well. No word on when that will begin production.
"Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" will be in theaters on May 22.
