VIZ Media Sets Up Movie Production House

Following the footsteps of a comic book companies like Marvel, VIZ Media, the U.S. publisher of Japanese graphic novels, has formed a production house to develop its many titles into potential movies, according to Variety.

The new company, VIZ Prods, is based in Hollywood, natch, and is headed by Jason Hoffs, a former production exec with stints at Amblin and DreamWorks.

Don't be surprise to see a couple of VIZ's more popular properties like "Naruto," "Bleach," and "One Piece" on the big screen in the near future.

Whether or not they'll be able to sustain the business is another matter. Movies like those mentioned above require crazy special effects budgets. Look for them to partner up with one of the big studios in the not so distant future.
